All new projects:

An update on the newest stuff I've been working on.  The big project I couldn't photograph because of the way it has to sit propped up for the apoxie to cure.  I was sculpting last night.  But the Arabian stallion (Peter Stone Body and Resin Arabian head) is prepped and primed and ready for paint.  I want to do something like a fleabit grey with a large area of bay on it's face similar to these photos.

Here's the stallion model.

And here is something else I'm working on.  I wanna do a 1/6 scale Le Fire model out of the Camilla foal. I added the little bit of umbilical cord though.

Appaloosa Mare:

In the words of Wendy Williams, "Can we talk?" lol

Ok, remember this model I was in the process of painting?

Well, it was supposed to be from this photo.

Well, it didn't turn out.  I did her in pastels so when you use pastels you go from light to dark. It's the layering process. Well, I went too dark to begin with and I just couldn't balance out the colors to fit.  I wanted the lighter chestnut horse with the snowflake spots that blended in and didn't stand out so stark white in contrast to the body color. What I had just wasn't going to be this horse, and I tried to get it lighter with washes and it was just not working. So I just accepted that it was going to be a darker version of this and worked on focusing my attention to the blacket pattern.  The paint wasn't cooperating, I had thick areas of paint and I just was getting more and more frustrated with this model.  Until I just got to a point I couldn't stand it anymore. So, I know it may be disappointing to my blogger followers, but I ........buffed the paint off as best I could , smoothed the surface, and reprimed her in white again.  I know I know....  But I just had to.  It's my OCD kicking in I think.  I just would rather start over on another model and try again with this reference photo.  I think maybe a standing model.  A Lady Phase or a Stud Spider maybe.
So you may be wondering what did I do instead with this model then?  Well, I found two new reference pictures and went absolutely nuts.  I LOVE this horse now. I didn't take progress photos this time because I wasn't as sure of what I was going to wind up keeping so I didn't want people to watch and like the new model only to scrap it again like I did the other paintjob.  But here are the two photos I went by this time.

And here is the progress of the model now.  I'm close to completing her.

I don't know about everyone else, but I think it's an improvement.

UPDATE!!!
 Finished.

Painting Underway:

I've started on the Babyflo's paintjob.
First I've started pastels. She's here a light golden orangy chestnut.

More layers. Slowly getting darker.

Now  I've detailed the musculature and taken her even darker.

Now I've finished so far with the pastels and now what I've done is put a dark brown wash over her in acrylics, and blackened the eyes.

I guess I jumped ahead a bit but it didn't seem so.  What I did here is I've gone back and taken black and dark brown pastels and darkened her head a little more. I did another wash, then I have taken thinned down white and started roaning out the areas where her appy markings are going.  She's roaned out a lot, so it's looking really sloppy and messy at this point.  It'll change though. What technique I'm using right now is the wet lift method. I take the white and paint the area and while the paint is dry but yet still soft, I take wet brushes and wet q-tips and roll over the white to dilute it on the horse and lift it off in certain areas. Then go back and repaint hairing and more opaque spots with more white paint.

This last picture below is a bit blurry, (sorry) but I'll add more today. This is after I've lifted much of the white away to clean up the pattern and define the darker sections. I think it's easier to understand what I'm doing by looking at the changes in the progress pictures more than my typing it out. Also.  Let me put up a reference picture of the actual horse I'm basing this model loosely on.  That may help to see what inspires this model.

Brand New 1/6 Scale Foal Update:

Got back to painting some stuff tonight and I'm working on the frolicking 1/6 scale foal.  He's going to be a black blanket appy foal.  I don't know if I am going to put spots on his blanket or make him a snow cap appy.  I'm using a reference picture for his color and the little guy in the picture is a snow capped appy.  I don't know.  I'll see how he goes.

Poco Complete And New 1/6 Scale Foal:

I shouldn't say complete yet without the people who are getting her giving the final say, but so far she's pretty much complete.  I need to find out what else she needs done to her.

But here she is.

I've also started a pair of 1/6 Scale Camila foals again.  I've got another stretched out one I'm doing.  I loved that first one's pose so much, I really wanna try that again.  And the next one is in a semi rearing frolicking pose.  The laying down stretched one I didn't bother to take progress shots of because I've already posted so many pictures of the first one I did like that.  So there's no point really.  But here is the second one.

I'm aiming for the little bay foal in the below picture as a reference and guide.

More Updates:

Well she's finished.  The Arabian mare.  I will come up with a name. I thought I already had but forgot it.  Oh well.  I have also set a deadline for offers on her.  Her ad is still up in MH$P and I will update that with her new pictures also.  The deadline for offers is January 30th, at 10 PM Eastern.  You may submit them through the ad in MH$P or here at the blog.

Ok, I have a commission I'm working on and I will include one of the real photos below also. But this is the model I'm trying to make work for this. It's a Breyer stock horse, and I've shaved down all those bulging muscles that just made it look like the hulk or something.  It's fine for a quarter horse, but not for the mare I'm using it for.  So she's been smoothed down and she's had her face lengthened, and her tail removed and her original neck removed.  I'm trying to see how her head will look and I'm honestly toying with the position of her neck a bit before committing to something permanent with the apoxie.  She's also had one of her ears twitched back to give more personality.  The middle picture is the pose I was thinking of going with, but I will have to check with the person having me do the model.  She's an appaloosa and the first pic below is the coloration I'm to paint the model in.  I can't wait to paint this one.  This looks like it's going to be fun.  I need to do some surgery on the feet because this mare was extremely club footed so I need to sculpt the feet to reflect that as well.

Next is the Afghan Hound.  I've got a base coat on this guy now.

And finally I've been sanding down and smoothing and shaping the Grazing Mare's body and that hind leg. I think I'm close.  I've also been shaving down the neck some more too. This is her so far.
