Charity Painting Progress May 9th Completed:

Ok, I've started the painting for the charity auction.  I'm going to start a brand new post for this so it's a continuous updating post.  I'll add the newest pictures to the bottom so you can all scroll down to see it's development.  I'll update the title of the post with the date of every update so you can tell when I've added new images and don't have to scroll down each time to just check.
So here we go.

Sorry I hadn't updated for a couple days.  I've been so sore and exhausted.  Yesterday, my neighbor and I moved 8 tons of gravel with just a couple of shovels, a tarp and a bucket.  We went in together and bought gravel for our driveways which are basically one big driveway and the dump truck couldn't spread it because of a low hanging power line above, so he had to dump all 8 tons in a pile right in the middle and we had to spread it ourselves.  Needless to say, I'm not as in shape as I need to be.  I painted a little bit tonight but I will be back at it tomorrow.

Ok, It's pretty much done.  But even though it's signed I will I think still go back and highlight this or shadow that before I spray seal it for the last time.  It's just really late, or really early, however you wanna look at it tonight, so I'm just going to put it up and go to bed.  But here it is now.

Finished.

Now For My Next Trick:

Ok, Canvas painting time again.  If anyone remembers the last painting I did for that Fallen Officers charity thing I was asked to donate a painting to  last year, I was contacted again by the same person to do another one.  I said yes.  Here's the last one I did a year ago if anyone remembers.

This next one I'm doing is based more of Fallen Firemen than Cops. Not because of any biased. Just because I didn't a have a lot of prior notice and was having some trouble coming up with a concept for this new one involving both Dalmations and German Shepherds.  I would've needed a little more time to try and figure out something else, so I scanned through pictures of dogs online and usually when I see something I can work with to put into a painting, I get a vision.  So I did a firedog memorial painting this time.  AND, since the last time I used the name of a fallen fireman in the painting, this time I'm also using the name of a fallen fireman.  I looked up a story in the news where a Lt. Ambelas was killed tragically in a burning building last summer in NY.  So I've added his ladder company number 119, and his name to the helmet.

So this is the concept for the new painting.  It looks a little crude right now,...well,  a lot crude right now.  But what I'm going to for is a mostly black and white and grey tone painting with the red color being more bright.  You know how you see those painting or photographs where they're black n white and the only other color is like bright red or blue or something? Well, that's the idea.  Anyway, stay tuned tonight because I'm going to start painting it and will put step by step progress shots in a post as I go.  It's going to be 24 inches by 30 inches in size acrylic canvas.

Important Message Regarding Posted Comments!!

Hey guys, I'm gonna leave this up at the top of the blog for a while just because it's an announcement.  The updates on the Appaloosa's progress will continue in the thread directly under this one.  I got an email from someone today saying they were having trouble posting in my blog and they emailed to let me know this was a continuous problem for them.  I'd often wondered why I get so much traffic to the blog every day but hardly any posts.  And it's been like that for a while now. Apparently a LONG while. I get emails in response to blog posts all the time from people who've visited regularly, but I never asked if there were any problems.  Just assumed they would rather email directly.   I had no idea this was going on with the blog and that people had been trying to post and simply couldn't. I just thought most people had nothing to post. lol
I did have some trouble with the blog a while ago posting pictures, but I blamed that on AOL, and IE.  Both browsers basically froze up every time I tried to upload images.  Now, I'm starting to realize that's mostly Google because they obviously want people to use their own browser, Chrome. So mysteriously other browsers are having more and more trouble accessing, processing, navigating Google owned/associated sites, aps, and programs.    So reluctantly I had to download Chrome again just to be able to use my blog and upload pictures to it.  I also can't right click to save, or even access Google images with AOL anymore without it freezing up and refusing to display more than 8 pictures.  It's beyond annoying.  So, if anyone has been having trouble posting on this blog, asking a question about a tutorial, or requesting things or anything else, let me know by emailing me directly.

Also, I've just changed the setting on the blog to allow unregistered users (anyone and everyone) the ability to post comments, but this is going to be on a temporary basis because I don't want spammers to flood the site with a bunch of material I'll have to delete.  But for now it's open just to see if people will be able to post that way.

Appaloosa [Completed] Painting Step By Step [April 14th Update]:

I'm going to change the title headline to include the new update dates now so people can see when I've updated this step by step post without scrolling down looking for new images.

I've wanted to do this horse ever since I saw this picture.  So I've finally decided to do him.  I only have the one side but I can freestyle the other side.
This is gonna be fun.

This is what I'm going by.

And here are the progress pictures.  What I'm gonna do is just keep editing this post to add the newer images to it instead of starting new posts for the continuation of the model.  It's looking rough at first but I'm doing so many layers it'll finally take shape some where along the way.
Until I get to that point it'll just look a bit rough.

Here are some new images for today Sunday, March 29, 2015.  There are so many layers to this guy's coat it's not even funny!  But I'm sinking the pattern deep into the coat.  I don't know what you'd classifiy this Appy as.  I know he's a blanket Appaloosa. But I think maybe he's a varnish blanket appy.  A Bay Varnish Blanket Appaloosa is what we're going for I think.
Here are some more images.  Sorry the camera went fuzzy on the last one even though I sharpened the image some it didn't help.  I think I was a little out of focus plus I didn't use the flash for that one I think.

I should say the hind legs look awful for a reason right now.  It's what I'm holding the horse with to paint him, so the hind legs will be the last thing I go back and do.
Here's the next couple of layers done.

He's gonna be so pretty. I'm predicting he's gonna NAN his very first show.

Ok, I didn't update anymore yesterday as I had a massive migraine headache and took like 4 muscle relaxers during the day and I was just all messed up yesterday. So I'm back at him today.  It's March 31, 2015 and here are some more update images.
He's getting darker and more spotted.  I'm still not getting much done on the legs yet. I'm slowly getting down the legs but I'm still doing those last.  I am working on the inside of a couple though. These are pictures with and without the flash.

April 8, 2015 Update!

I'm now getting into the legs.  I also did an antiquing layer, well several really, to the front half of the body. I'm also starting to block out the legs with some base color.  It's sloppy at first them I clean it up.  So it'll get better.

These last two were taken without the flash in florescent light.

April 9, 2015 Update!
I've started getting to the spots on the legs.  Forgive me that he was so shiny in these images. I had just sprayed him and couldn't wait for him to dry before taking his pictures.  This is without a doubt  to me anyway, one of if not the prettiest Appaloosas I've ever done.  I wish I could keep him and send him via Proxy to some shows myself. (sigh)  I really do love his right front sock in the above image, and I may just white his sock back out again by the time I'm done.  I don't know.  But for now, he's got spotted socks.
I have a ton more to do to him yet.  He's still just in the base coloring.  I have to go back and paint the detailed edges of the patterns with white, I have to also put tiny hairs all over him. I've also got to give him tiny speckles and spots to.
 But here's the newest update.

April 10, 2015 Update!

He's getting closer to completion.  I may take him off of Offers and just set him up with a reserve on Ebay or maybe even sending him to some shows myself first.  He's so awesome!  I still have some more detailing to do on him yet.
He's coming along.

April 14, 2015 Update!
And he is FINISHED! Over 30 layers of color and an entire can of Testors DullCoat.  Pastels, Acrylics, Antiquing, Washes, Dry-Brushing. Now, I gotta figure out a name for him.

(the clear gloss in his eye in the above picture hadn't dried clear completely yet. It's still a little cloudy.  That's what that milky haze at the bottom of the eye is)

Oh, and the little stablemate is completed. So, scroll down for pictures of her completed.  I went with Palomino!

Also, I'm working on another Andalusian Stablemate from the new Brigette Iberl mold. I'll keep these images at the bottom of this step by step appy.
I'm not sure if I want him to be a buckskin or a palomino yet.
I had him nearly done but I discovered he wouldn't set level with all legs on the ground.  He kept flipping over on his side, so I had to bend his outstretched front leg some and now he's perfect.   Plus I had to bulk up his rump and flanks a little bit more to.
